BSA Troop 1237
Clinton, Maryland – Tayac District
Charles Rentz, Jr, (Chuck) ; Scoutmaster : Mr. Rentz has been the Scoutmaster of Troop 1237 since the Winter of 2002. Prior to that he was an assistant scoutmaster for the better part of a year. Before returning to the Washington area from which he departed after high school graduation, Chuck enjoyed the warm climate of Orlando, Florida where he was employed as an accountant for a travel agency. Preceding Florida, Lieutenant Rentz traveled the world courtesy of the United States Navy for 10 years. Chuck was commissioned as a Naval officer directly after graduating from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science in business. Mr. Rentz is committed to assisting our troop’s youth in reaching all that they wish to achieve. He routinely attends various training that the District and Council provide. When he’s not doing that, he’s working around the hut fixing and painting things that have been neglected. Mr. Rentz is real estate appraiser.
Audie Willingham, (Mr. Audie) ; Assistant Scoutmaster : Mr. Audie joined our troop in the winter of 2004-2005 and brings a new facet to our adult leadership corps with his knowledge of life in the early days of our nation. He has helped the scouts make haversacks as well as coats from wool blankets much as the pioneers did. He is an avid archer and has a wealth of outdoors / survival skills; many of which he picked up during his 24 years in the US Marine Corps. Mr. Audie is active in his church where he leads religious education classes for the youth. He is a native of California and enjoys his current career as a plumber primarily working in the commercial / industrial sector.
Kimberly
Gilbert, Esquire (Ms. Kim) ; Assistant Scoutmaster
: In short, Ms Gilbert
is always there when no one else can
be. Before Mr. Rentz became Scoutmaster,
Ms. Kim willingly took on that position at a time when the troop most
needed her. Her cheerful spirit kept the troop operating smoothly while
her prior experience and training set an example for newcomers to
follow. After training the new adults, Ms. Kim graciously stepped out
of the limelight back to Assistant Scoutmaster, a position which she had
held for several years prior to her scoutmastership. Ms Gilbert is
among the most well-trained and educated scouters in the District. Ms.
Gilbert is a real estate attorney.
Stephen Cowie ; Assistant Scoutmaster : Stephen is our youngest Assistant Scoutmaster. His willingness to serve our troop in this capacity after turning 18 in the Spring of 2004, is greatly appreciated. He is able to keep up with our older scouts in physical endeavors and can provide insights that those of us who are older sometimes fall to appreciate. Stephen graduated from high school at the top of his class and is now attending Frostburg University. We look forward to seeing him during his breaks.
James McClain ; Assistant Scoutmaster : James graduated from high school in 2002 near the top of his class and shortly thereafter brought honor to our troop by earning his Eagle rank. James is now studying engineering at North Carolina A & T. We appreciate when he is able to stop by and give some words of advice to our scouts who are striving to follow the trail to Eagle
Gery Glover ; Troop Committee Chairman : Gery prides himself on working with the other adult volunteers in the troop to provide a rich and varied program for our youth. He demands all that our youth can muster and enjoys sharing his experience with our young men. Mr. Glover is a native to Prince George’s County but spent his college years and several years thereafter in North Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Forestry from N.C. State University and worked for the university. He knows way too much about trees and machinery! He chose to return to Maryland in 1987 for family reasons and now enjoys working as a real estate appraiser.
